Often when a site functions as a reseller or affiliate of a product (or many products) the site just uses the product description provided by the merchant. Of course, no search engine wants to list hundreds or thousands of identical or nearly-identical pages about the same product or topic. So, most of these pages get filtered from the search results. Although duplicating product descriptions isn’t, technically, considered spam by the search engines, it will get your pages removed from the search results—so the effect is the same.

From our Search Engine Guru: The bottom line, content provided by a supplier that’s used by all or many of the people on their list gets them no juice in the rankings. Rewriting that content in your own words gets your site a unique advantage in the rankings over sites that use the content written by the supplier word for word.
